Vibalogics – Development of new suspension based virus manufacturing plant

Led the full lifecycle of a technical construction project while maintaining communication with key stakeholders. Designed and implemented project funding strategies and developed Capital Project Appropriation (CPA requests) CAPEX. Guided activities to ensure adherence with State and local building codes, Department of Environmental Protection, USDA, FDA, and OSHA regulations.
Vibalogics is a privately-owned contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) offering process development, manufacturing, testing, and fill-finish services to innovators developing revolutionary virotherapy products. We are currently doubling the current capacity of suspension-based virus manufacturing with a new 500 litre production line in building 6 and we are adding the new building 8 with locker and change rooms (called “SunnyVib 1”.

One 500 L production line in building 6 consisting of: – 400m2 production area – 2 x expansion suites (BSL-1, ISO 7-8, class C) – 2 x USP / DSP suites (BSL-2, ISO 7-8, class C) – Solution feed – 16 dedicated FTE – Plan to expand capacity by >20x500L batches/year (2023) – 2022 expected capacity 14 batches/year
• 01/2021 we started to build this in expansion in building 6 (project phase 1).
• 3/2021 we started to build a new building 8 with locker rooms (project phase 2)
• Both projects have been completed in time and budget within 12/9 months.
• Vibalogics will create additional 160 jobs within the next 2 years.
• Investment: 55 m Euro
• Main responsibilities:
Technical lead in all construction areas WFI, clean steam, clean compressed air, etc.), black utilities (plant steam, cooling water and compressed air), critical utilities, architectural, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, clean room) and process automation
• Lead of a team of 45 employees
• Communicate, plan, and organize effectively with colleagues, staff, management, architects, engineers, outside contractors and regulatory agencies
• Manage a variety of projects at one time and bring them to completion on time, under budget, and safely
• Full time and budget responsibility
• Invited to BOD (Board of Directors)
Started conceptual design, engineering phase, procurement, construction until completion.
Both projects (Building 6 and 8 – called “SunnyVib 1”) completed successfully, within budget and handed over to operations on Febr. 14, 2022
Vibalogics has been acquired by Recipharm in February 2022.
Started with a second major project “SunnyVib 2” with a volume of 50 m Euro Capex in January 2022 with developing a new building (3.000 m²) with logistic area, production support areas with clean rooms, 3 autoclaves, cold storage areas, assembly of Single use systems, offices, archives, media redundancy (electrical, black steam, WIFI, etc.).
The feasibility study and the basic design has been completed. Due to the acquisition by Recipharm the project was put on hold since end of July 2022.
