SAPPI SA – Upgrade of existing pulp mill

Technical and disciplinary head of various departments (~70 staff and various subcontractors).
• Upgrade of an existing pulp mill with fabrication and installation:
• Woodyard: New hardwood chipping line
• Fiber line: Installation of a new digester plant that will consist of six new batch digesters and a new bleach plant
• Digester: Modification of digester 2.
• Pulp Drying: No.3: Modification and installation of the Uptake Machine to be able to successfully run with chemical cellulose pulp.
• Installation of a new broke tower, the cleaner system upgraded and demineralization water shower to improve pulp cleanliness.
• Replacement of the existing dryer.
• Evaporation: Modification of the evaporation plant with the increased WBL generated by the digesters.
• Recovery Boiler: Upgrade of the existing No.2 CRF to be able to steam at higher rates.
• Installation of a new Chloride removal system.
• Balance of Plant: New interconnecting piping and pipe bridges between the existing and new plant.
• Expansion of the Mill’s compressed air system. Installation of a new demineralized water plant to meet the high-quality water demand of No.3
• Strong knowledge of FIDIC general conditions was mandatory for successful project execution.
Resolved all significant issues and successfully brought projects back on track re: schedule and budget.
Lump Sum Turnkey Project of 295 Mio USD upgraded existing pulp mill with fabrication and installation.

Successfully completion of a new demineralized water plant and a new Chlorine Dioxide Plant in time and budget.
